Swami, F^O^D^E and the MJ News on Tour
By admin | July 6, 2009
Just found some time to update you on my travels in June. After a great Swami live performance at the BBC World Service Trust Concert on Wednesday 17th June 2009 in London, we flew straight to Canada for rehearsals to headline the Telus Mosaic festival in Mississauga on Saturday 20th June. A large and very hyped crowd were present at Mosaic despite the rain that continued to fall…that is what I call hardcore Swami fans…! You can see the videos and pics at www.mosaicfest.com
On Sunday 21st June we performed two sets in the blazing sun at North By North East (NXNE) festival in Dundas Square in Toronto. The first set was a live stripped down Swami rock set of some of our heavier songs like Don’t Hold Back, DesiRock and Ching (without Liana) and the second set was an introduction to my all new alternative rock project with Indian influences called Fell On Deaf Ears (or F^O^D^E for short)….F^O^D^E is a collaboration with singer songwriter Josh Lyons from Florida and is a totally different sound from Swami that we can only describe as Kashmir Rock..there is a very exciting album in production…Check the link on the right to hear more…
After a series of TV and radio interviews throughout the week, we were hit with the news of Michael Jackson’s death while moving hotel in Toronto on Thursday 25th June..Unbelievabe..we were all shocked and speechless for some time..
We knew we had a headline performance the very next night (Friday) for the Global Grooves festival at the premiere Toronto downtown location of Dundas Square…so we HAD to do something..
Over 5,000 people turned up that Friday night to see Swami in Dundas Square, Toronto…We performed two sets, the second set opening with an unplugged version of MJ’s The Way You Make Me Feel…It was an incredible moment to hear thousands of people celebrating the life of one of the world’s most popular music icons in one of the world’s most important locations and singing EVERY word…I felt relieved in some way that this was an outlet for our shared grief and a way for us to show our respect to the King of Pop…We will share the video and pics over the next few days…RIP MJ.
